The Great Dividing Trail: Community planned 260km public walking trail following the top of the Great Dividing Range from Bacchus Marsh to Bendigo. Four major tracks separated for easily accessible day or short walks.
Trentham and the surrounding area has many historical sites and wonderful state forests.
The Historical Society is located in the old police station and slab lock-up in Camp St Trentham.
Trentham Falls: Trentham-Falls Road. A short track leads to a Northern Lookout offering views of the Coliban River which falls some 32 metres over basalt columns originally formed by ancient lava flows boasts to be the largest single-drop waterfall in Victoria. It is an excellent spot for picnics and bushwalks. Further north by foot or 4WD are the Trentham Cascades.
Trewhalla Brothers Foundry: Victoria Street. Bill invented the Trewhalla jack which facilitated the movement of large mill logs. It was manufactured from 1893 until the foundry's closure in 1997.
Horse Troughs: Two of these relics survive and can be seen High Street.
Quarry St Reserve: The Quarry St Reserve and Lake is located on Stony Creek at the intersection of Quarry St and Victoria Street. The springs were created by means of voluntary labour and it is thought to have been Trentham's first water supply. There are gas barbecues, picnic facilities and toilets.
Enders Bridge and Smokehouse: Jeremiah Enders established one of the first mills in the area up stream from the Trentham falls on the Coliban River .The bridge has recently been restored. Note the fine stone work supporting the steel structure. To the south west of the bridge two smokehouses used to cure meat can be seen.
Lyonville Mineral Spring: On the Loddon River, the crystal clear spring flows all year round. There are fireplaces, picnic tables and toilets.
McLaughlins Lookout: Situated near the corner of Blackwood Ridge Road and Wheelers Track, this lookout at 830 meters above sea level offers panoramic views of Mt Macedon, the Dandenongs and the You Yangs.
Blackwood: A 15 minute drive south of Trentham is Blackwood which is situated on the Lerderderg River. There are mineral springs plus a flora and fauna reserve in Golden Point Rd. There are barbecues, a picnic area, toilets, parking and a kiosk. It is open in daylight hours and there is an admission fee per car.
The Wombat Forest: (69, 200 ha) Here you can enjoy bush walking, wildflowers and orchids.
Lerderderg State Park: 14 000-ha park, in which the major attractions are the rugged gorges and escarpments of the Lerderderg River. There are walking tracks that follow the river and the water races cut by goldminers when they were panning for gold in the bygone era. Sandy river banks enhance the swimming areas (particularly at Shaw's Lake) and bush camping is permitted away from main roads, making it very popular in the summer.
Firth Park: (100 ha) 5 km east of Trentham where there are fireplaces, toilets and picnic tables. It is close to several former sawmills, one of which can be seen via a walking track. This land was used for eucalyptus distilling and then Firth planted exotic trees which are still there today. They are labelled for identification. There is a lake and on display is an old horse-drawn timber tram. The wheels were used on Edward Firth's Nolan Creek tramway.
Domino Trail: A well-marked walking trail that loops along the old railway line from the Trentham Station toward Lyonville and return (9kms).
